At this time, international solidarity with women in Iran is critically important in order to help the continuation of the current courageous wave of protests in defense of women and against state brutality. Iranian feminists have already begun this outreach for dialogue and solidarity.
Below, the Alliance of Middle Eastern Socialists is providing short biographies of several of the most well-known feminist political prisoners, in order to heighten awareness of the important role of women in the current protest movement in Iran and to promote solidarity with Iranian feminist struggles, and the protest movement as a whole.
These are incredibly courageous acts in a country in which the hijab is compulsory, and where women who do not wear their headscarves properly can be arrested, assaulted, face fines, lashes and imprisonment. . . These acts of protest are part of a broader wave of mass protests for social justice inside Iran today.
