The aim of this campaign is to demand the immediate and unconditional release of a diverse set of women political prisoners who oppose patriarchy and religious fundamentalism, defend women’s rights, human rights, labor rights and the rights of oppressed minorities.
Below, the Alliance of Middle Eastern Socialists is providing short biographies of several of the most well-known feminist political prisoners, in order to heighten awareness of the important role of women in the current protest movement in Iran and to promote solidarity with Iranian feminist struggles, and the protest movement as a whole.

More than a dozen political prisoners, including prisoners of conscience, have gone on hunger strike to protest the cruel, inhuman and degrading conditions they have been forced to endure at a maximum-security prison in Karaj, Alborz province.
